Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol that is used to encrypt the information exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to protect the data which visitors submit on your website - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, and so forth. Any content they input in any box on the site shall be submitted securely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Usually, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be set up, meaning that the overall cost for your online presence shall be higher. While this might not exactly be a problem for a larger company, it might matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which doesn't generate big income if additional money should be spent. That's the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension referred to as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Web Hosting

A shared IP could be used for any SSL certificate, regardless if you purchase it from our company or from a different seller and regardless of the shared web hosting service that you have on our end. If you obtain the SSL from us, you will find this option on the certificate order page inside your hosting CP where you can also make use of the 1-click automatic configuration option that we offer. If the latter is selected within the SSL order wizard, our system shall install and set up everything for you through the specifically configured server shared IP, thus once you buy and approve the SSL, there will not be anything else to do on your end. You could save the money that you will otherwise have to pay for a dedicated IP and the SSL shall work in the same exact way, so any data the website visitors submit shall be encoded. The sole difference is that if you input the shared IP instead of your domain in an Internet browser, the website will not appear.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Any SSL certificate can be used with our specifically set up shared IPs, therefore if you have a semi-dedicated hosting account, you could use this option with only several mouse clicks when you install a certificate that you obtain through us or through any other dealer. For the SSLs we offer you could also take advantage of another function and have our system set everything up for you. That way as soon as you approve the SSL, the shared IP will be set for the particular domain or subdomain and the certificate will be installed with no action expected on your end, and so any info that site visitors submit on your site will be secure. The SSL shall function in the exact same way regardless if it is set on a shared or a dedicated IP and the only thing that's different between the two setups is that inputting the shared IP as a URL inside a web browser will not open your site.
