If a certain page on an Internet site does not load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the website, that could make the visitor leave your site. A solution in this case is a feature made available from some hosting service providers - the ability to set your own custom error pages that shall have identical layout as your site and that can contain any images or text which you want dependent upon the particular error. There are four standard errors which can occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the web server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see some web page, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to see a particular page; and 404, in case a link that you have clicked leads to a file which doesn't exist. In any of these situations, website visitors will be able to see your customized content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Web Hosting

The customized error pages function is available with each shared web hosting package deal that we offer and you'll be able to swap all generic pages with your own with no more than several clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You will have to produce the actual files and to upload them to your account, then to set them for a specific domain or subdomain through the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You can do this for each and every website hosted in the account individually, so that every group of personalized pages will have the very same style and design as the site it is part of. If necessary, you could always revert back to a default page from our system or to a default Apache server page. A different way to set custom made error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have never done this before, you could simply copy the needed program code from our Help article about the subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you host your sites in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you'll be able to set tailor-made error pages for each of them easily via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With only a couple of clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you could modify the default setting from a system page to a custom one for any of the 4 error types. All you must do is supply a link to every file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If required, you will be able to revert this change anytime and in exactly the same way. If you would like, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It has to be created/uploaded in the domain or subdomain folder related to the website whose error pages you would like to modify and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article on this matter.
